5How it all began…

Welcome to my first Art in the Making Newsletter, which marks my re-emergence into the art world and the launch of the Leisa Collins website.

So how did this all begin?

The year was 1975. It was the beginning of a beautiful New Zealand summer and I was fresh out of high school. The setting was a stuffy lecture room at the Auckland Technical Institute where I had enrolled for art training so that I wouldn’t end up behind a grocery store check-out counter with no formal education to fall back on.

The teacher’s discourse ran on and on, his voice echoing off the walls… and then it hit me! There had to be more to art and life than this! Surely art was something to be LIVED, not just the subject of boring, pedantic course room lectures.

I made up my mind. I would learn my craft by capturing the splendor of the countryside on canvas. I threw the few paintings and art supplies I possessed in the back of my old station wagon and with only a few dollars in my pocket (no credit cards those days) I embarked upon a new adventure. And what an adventure it was. I gave rides to a wide variety of foreign hitch-hikers and learned about their cultures and customs, I visited the Maraes (community meeting centers) of New Zealand’s native Maori race, I got lost in remote mountain regions, and when I found myself totally broke I spontaneously set up my easel with a beautiful scene in front of me… and a busy tourist resort directly behind.I sold the landscape before the paint was dry and was back on the road in a flash.

My interactions with people on these travels gave me my first view of social injustice. When I arrived back in Auckland I continued my career as a full time artist while becoming increasingly involved in the growing movement to restore Maori land rights. A few years later I decided to devote my energies full time to social issues – a course which lead me to the four corners of the globe. This provided me with greater insight on life and introduced me to many diverse cultures and art forms.

My motto is Art with a Message and my new path is to work again as a full time artist while using my art to promote and create change on important social issues.

Over the last few months I have compiled an art portfolio which I hereby proudly present to you through my new website – www.leisacollins.com.

I invite you to tour my virtual gallery and take note of my unique commission work. I also especially invite you to visit the Art in Action page of the website.

Remember that supporting a living artist and owning original works of art gives you a unique relationship and ownership – something that is rare in the artificial world of today.

Purchase one of my original paintings online, send me an e-mail message, visit my Art with a Message Blog or sign up for this Art in the Making Newsletter.

I will continue to update my website with new works of art and blog the daily events of my upcoming live tour – Across the USA from the Eyes of an Artist.

Later this year I will continue to blog as I retrace my journey through the New Zealand wilderness where I first taught myself to paint.

Most importantly, I would love to hear from you and get your feedback.

Wishing you a fabulous week!

Best regards,

Leisa

WILY'S SPORTS

wilyA large number of people in the society especially in Africa are mostly exposed to heart attack, high blood pressure and other diseases related to lack of exercising. Our majority of the youth are involved in immorality, drugs.

It happens because of idleness. WILY’S SPORTS is out to create awareness on the importance of exercising, we do this by organizing sporting events, holding fitness workshop and talk shows on fitness.

Let us come together and create a world free from exercise related health problem. And change the lifestyle of the youths in our society.

Cheri Hall

school-house-w-greeneryMy name is Cheri Hall and I have been working with kids since I was a teenager. I worked at Applied Scholastics International tutoring kids in need of educational help. I worked at Narconon Chilocco, a drug rehabilitation center, helping wonderful people get off drugs and able to handle life. Since 1996 I have been working for the Mojave Academy, and am now the Executive Director. Our goal is to create a safe place where children can be themselves, be away from the ills of society and are treated like individuals. We create miracles daily. Remember, children move on to be our future executives, our future religious leaders, our future business men and women, our future presidents. Treat them like they our future.

The Dangers of MSG in your food

dw-crop-2Submitted by Dennis Ward McFadden

This is a post on the dangers of MSG and how much of it is used in processed food.
Eat natural out of the ground and not out of a box or plastic bag.

Collected Reports of Adverse Reactions to MSG Ingestion

Ingestion of processed free glutamic acid (MSG) is known to produce a variety of adverse reactions in some people. These reactions, although seemingly dissimilar, are no more diverse than reactions found as side effects of certain neurological drugs. We do not know why some people experience reactions and others do not. We do not know whether MSG “causes” the condition underlying the reaction, or whether the underlying condition is simply aggravated by the ingestion of MSG. We only know that the reactions listed below are sometimes caused or exacerbated by MSG.

All forms of MSG (free glutamic acid that occurs in food as a consequence of manufacture) cause these reactions in MSG-sensitive people. That includes MSG found in a plant “growth enhancer” called AuxiGro, and MSG found in a variety of other fertilizers and fungicides that have been approved for spraying on growing crops, including crops identified as “organic.”

Time to throw out that microwave oven.

Microwave oven- The Hidden Hazards

Technology holds great promise when developed, promoted and used by ethical individuals and institutions. Harmful or immorally utilized technologies should spur us to take action to set things right. To that end, we share the information below.

Radiation Ovens-The Proven Dangers of Microwaves

Is it possible that millions of people are ignorantly sacrificing their health in exchange for the convenience of microwave ovens? Why did the Soviet Union ban the use of microwave ovens in 1976? Who invented microwave ovens, and why? The answers to these questions may shock you into throwing your microwave oven in the trash.

Education in America

Submitted by Dennis Ward McFadden

Part of the research I have been doing for many years.

How U.S. Schools Create Sheeple

Why Most Americans Are Unable To Perceive And Protest America’s Slide Into Fascism

By John Kaminski

In 1896 the famous John Dewey, then at the University of Chicago, said that independent, self-reliant people were a counter-productive anachronism in the collective society of the future. In modern society, said Dewey, people would be defined by their associations-not by their own individual accomplishments. In such a world people who read too well or too early are dangerous because they become privately empowered, they know too much, and know how to find out what they don’t know by themselves, without consulting experts. – Kurt Johmann

The question on the minds of many people with consciences who are so aghast at the sudden savagery of the new terror-based policies of the U.S. government is how has the American public so silently and willingly acquiesced to the dishonest and murderous attitudes of George W. Bush and his criminal oil cartel.

The hypnotic power of television is of course one main component of the fearful powerlessness that now grips the American populace and has the rest of the world cringing in fear about where the power elite’s military monster will strike next. That is a subject for another time.

The real credit for this continuing American coma belongs to something that has been right in front of our eyes all the time. It’s something we have supported, spent our money on, and prayed for, something we have participated in ourselves. Continue reading Education in America

Matrix Analogy (an original one)

Look, I’ve heard many analogies to the matrix; I think it’s actually kind of ridiculous at how well that movie came so close to mimicking the truth. That it did in fact serve as an analogy to what’s going on is demonstrated by the fact that multitudes could relate.

Alas, I still don’t know which pill is which. Was it the red one or the blue one that was the waker-upper? I honestly don’t know.

Regardless of the pill color, how does one get someone else to pick the right one?

It seems most people want to live in a peaceful society; live in blissful surroundings.

So how do you go about getting peoples heads out of the clouds?

If people are pretending really hard that the matrix is real, what do you do?

How to make a difference; I mean really, HOW!

By Joe Ball

I have seen much research into what is wrong with society, government and the world, all seemingly out of proportion to the successes being researched and known. Even when the successful actions are made known, the actual results are not promoted quite enough.

Making the successes known is the ultimate secret weapon. It is so unbelievably destructive to the titanium coated fear blanket that encapsulates and impedes progress.

So here is how, I mean really, how: Make successes known.

Here is a list I came up with off the top of my head. (and not really giving a crap how it’s written or sounds)

100_2306I only use all natural products in my home, either by buying them from a health food store or making them myself. I am getting a reverse osmosis system put into my home. Educating myself and my family about what is going on in the world today. I will be planting flowers and a garden.
